The Story of My Journey to Become a Volunteer

https://mynewharyadibagus.blogspot.com                                          The story of my journey to become a Volunteer

I really like the world of volunteers that are related to humanitarian and educational activities. I began to be interested in the world of volunteering since the second grade of high school. Why am I interested in this world? One of them is the world of volunteering which makes me proud and happy to help among others and get to know new people who need a helping hand in various regions. Not only that, other reasons may be because at school there is extracurricular activity or volunteering. The school is very supportive and even provides the facilities and infrastructure. The closest people to me are also very supportive of my activities as a volunteer.

I am very active in various activities to be a volunteer. I have also traveled to various parts of Indonesia even in the international world such as in Malaysia and Papua New Guinea. As a result, I can find out various human traits in various regions, their culture, lifestyle, and other things. Being a volunteer is a hard thing. Almost every volunteer in various places there must always be obstacles or obstacles. However, of course this is a separate point in volunteering because we are educated to have leadership characteristics and responsive decision making. That's what makes me think of becoming a volunteer. It also made me personally become a strong figure in the problem and responsive to the situation.

Here, I have experience and learning while being a volunteer, which in my opinion, is the best experience and learning that I get. I got this when I became a volunteer in the Malaysia-Indonesia border region, in Entikong, Kalimantan. At that time I chose at the same time to register on the fully funded path in the education sector. And finally passed as a volunteer. I departed from the city of Surabaya to Palangkaraya. How far from the airport to the service station, Entikong, Kalimantan. After arriving at Entikong, we rushed to the gathering place and stayed that was provided by the committee. There we are briefed about what our tasks are and how to approach and how to deal appropriately with the local community.

When the activity day arrived, I went straight to the dedication field. The first thing I did was to collect and carry out socialization to the local people about the importance of education, the purpose of education, and the benefits that will be felt later with education. Not spared, children also participated in this activity. Furthermore, my friends and I also surveyed the school directly for teaching contributions for the children so that they also helped local teachers not to be overwhelmed. However, I was very surprised when I saw and came to the school. in Entikong, there is only one school. In my opinion, maybe when the city people come here will say if this school is not worthy of being called a school but it is similar to a goat cage or the like.

How not, there are no other facilities and supporting facilities at all. Even educators here are also very few, only five. It forced me and other friends to propose to all parties to establish a proper learning camp. The next day, I and my fellow volunteers with local residents worked hand in hand to establish a learning camp for children that had been proposed yesterday. Shortly, the camp stood firm with makeshift coconut and bamboo leaves because indeed in Entikong it was very defensive, only relying on natural conditions. After the activity took place, we began to gather local children who would later be included in this camp. The next step I and other friends arranged what would be taught for these children and how the education system would be for them. As a result, I became a volunteer for education in teaching local arts and entrepreneurship.

I taught them about how to play gamelan, draw, and introduce folk songs in various parts of Indonesia. In addition, I also teach how to make all kinds of natural products to be created into useful products and high income later. I hope that with all the existing learning, it will be useful for children in Entikong in the future. We also did not escape giving motivation to them in relation to education so that they understood and understood the importance of education for them.

The next day is the third day or the last day, this is an opportunity for all of us volunteers to explore more Entikong and also get to know the cultural culture of the local residents. I think that the beauty of nature is owned by Entikong itself, even though it is a border area, but in my opinion, its preservation and biological diversity are very well maintained. This we can see the towering trees and growth power. Cultural culture from Entikong itself is also very rich. They introduced us to the dance, the arts, and their cultural customs which still relied on their ancestral traditions. I seemed to be amazed to be made. I really believe in this world that every deficiency must have an advantage in it.

Entikong is one such proof. Indeed Entikong has disadvantages such as education which lacks even the advice of inadequate infrastructure and their homes are still traditional and even their income is modest. But behind that Entikong has more wealth for its nature and its own cultural customs so this is what might later potentially become one of the favorite tourist destinations in Indonesia even though its territory is on the Malaysia-Indonesia border.

Being a volunteer is a fun thing because we know the various atmosphere in the territory of Indonesia and even internationally and something that is proud of ourselves because we are directly involved in our contribution in helping others. So, as a generation today, the millennial generation is rightfully our duty. Traveling or traveling is not only done when we are traveling but also can be done when becoming a volunteer. We even got both of them namely traveling and carrying out mandated volunteer duties.
